I set up a 75gal. reef tank about 6 weeks ago(Plenum with 25 gal. sump, 100lbs. live rock). Tank has cycled and all tests optimal, had small surge of diatoms then hair algae but has died down last week(added some astrea and turbos to tank). My question is I tested for iodine last week with a salifert test kit, found small amount of it, I added kent marine iodine supplement to tank then tested it today, Iodide was 6ppm, but the combined iodate and iodine test procedure showed nothing, I tested twice for it. Im confused as to whats the difference between iodide, iodate and iodine when testing. what am I looking for?

Eddie, if you are doing regular water changes, you don't need to dose iodine...you'll get enough in the new saltwater going into the tank.
