i need to replace my icecap fans. what fans are you using and do you like them? the icecaps were okay but they expensive and can be noisy and the thermometer controller wasnt very useful because the fan was always blasting at full speed.

I hate my canopy fans they're loud and don't do a good job. I don't know what they are but I remember they were expensive. I like the cheep clip on in my sump I got at Target.

I have the answer and I am a noise freak - only silent will do. Take a fan from a PC power supply (or buy one from radio shack) They are 12vdc. Get an AC/DC converter that has adjustable output voltage. Again radio shack should have. I run the fans at about 5vdc and they run silently. If you need more cooling bump the voltage up. You can trade noise for air movement. Works great. I actually have two fans in my canopy that cool a 250W MH and VHOs.

A cheap computer 80mm fan wired to an AC adapter of my choice... I've picked up the nerdy habit of collecting various old adapters (since I have these fans and also do some LED work) so if one is too noisy I just find another one.

I looked in a decent catalog (e.g., Digikey or Mouser) and they have about 100 different small fans. I picked the ones with the smallest noise (it happens to be Panasonic). I'm really happy with them.
