Last night, a rather large bta that I'd just got Sat. decided to go for a walk. After clogging the overflow and causing a minor flood (this is when I woke up) it ended up in the sump. I couldn't find it last night so left it for today when I was awake and could see. I found the stupid thing attached to a brick in the sump. 8O It has it's foot in two of the holes of the brick. So now I have a brick in my display. What a pain in the butt this is gonna be. I'll post a pict as soon as the camera battery changes.

Put it in a high flow area and it should move off of the brick. If you can get to it and feel like taking the time, I have had luck using plastic spoons for peeling off BTA's. Just take you time and be gentle so you do not rip it.

Sorry to hijack your thread... I got a really cool green BTA for my GSM clowns. The day I put him in,over a month ago, he went to the very bottom of my tank underneath the rocks. You can barely see him and is now white. At least the clowns are feeding him so he is doing well. Last night I noticed he split,so now I have two dumb white BTA's.

Yeah, they can be a pain. Now, it's the stupid camera, the battery won't charge so I gots to go get a new one.

I'm surprised the thing is in as good of shape as it is. I had some fiberglass window screen over the drain tube and it still went down the drain. I don't know if it had managed to push the screening aside or not, but it's not torn up or anything. I think it got stuck at an elbow and that's why the tank over flowed. I haven't perminately attached the down tube to the elbow at the bulkhead, so I lifted it up, swoosh and down it went.

BTA's never have a permanent home. They can stay in one loaction for a long time. My BTA's used to stay put until time to clone it would move, clone then find two new locations. Sometimes change the lighting or flow would cause them to move also.

I feel kinda odd saying this sense I havent even had time to set up my sump, but wouldent it be one of the most high flow ares in a tank?? I was thinking of my setup, a 20 gal sump on a 72 gal, and the tank turns over 10 times in a hour so the sump must turn over 70 times in a hour...that seems like a HUGE flow.

Another thing feeling the way I do, if he liked it there, I would have left him there, we give them a home let them pick there chair, thats just the way I feel.

Well I would have left him in the sump, except there is no light there right now and 3 uncovered pumps. He wouldn't have lasted long, I don't think.

I've also thought that BTA's need pretty high flow. One lfs here has a nice corner tank that is low flow, every bta he puts in there just withers away. I can put a power head directly at mine and they just seem to love it.

Anyway, here a picture of the bta after it's roller coaster ride. I've since moved some rock around. Bricks in the display are not good.

Be happy it survived the trip. It will more than likley wander off of the brick sooner or later.

I just hope it's sooner :P

Then again, I could use that brick as part of the aquascaping for the build off 8O

Just an update.

The BTA decided it doesn't like the brick any more and has moved. The brick is now back in the sump, and the BTA is on the move. I'll keep a close eye on the overflow 8O

I had my skimmer set up high on bricks so that it could drain into the fuge. After the flooding, I decided I no long wanted to take any chances. The fuge is now just a place to hold new frags and grow pods. I really don't know why the bricks are still in the sump, I guess I'm just too lazy to take them out. I'll probably remove them on the next water change.
