What beach did you catch them at? It might help. It resembles Batfish but without the gaudy dorsal and anal fins.

These look sooooo much like Parachaetodon ocellatus, but I don't think it is. P.oscellatus is only from the Pacific if I'm correct. Sorry, but I'm stumped. I'm also not a very good Caribbean fish IDer :)

Wait .... i might have a winner. A juvenile Chaetodipterus faber, perhaps?! Right distribution range, right shape and morphology :)

FYI, I am pretty convinced it is a juvie of some species. If it is a C.faber, release it. It's going to get HUGE fast.

Fish aren't subject to the same strict collection laws as corals, particularly stony corals. That said, I don't know the nuisances of American fishery laws, but I would guess collecting fish is not an issue.

In Florida it is required for you to have a salt water fishing license to catch all the fish you want Unless they are indangered. Happy Fishing

Call the COPS then Nikon! JC, it is a small dock angel! We catch them all the time off the piers from Pensacola to Port Canaveral. They are usually much bigger ! Cool looking addition just like a small sheepshead until it outgrows the tank.
