looking for a bit of advice.

it may take up to 4 days to get across the country.

im thinking of putting my sps coral heads in tanks in the back and operating an airstone, a heater and a powerhead in the tub of water theyll be in.

would they survive a trip just being in styrofoam containers like when they ship coral? i dont have much experience with that since i get all my stuff from frag swaps.

anyone else done a move this far?

id like to hear some experiences.

thanks!

Wow, four days, you certainly have me beat.

We did an 18 hour relocation with the corals in covered tubs with airstones, they all did fine.

Not for four days unless you have air conditioning and other life support for the vehicle as it make it way to FL.

It should take you less than three days, but I guess you don't want to push it too much. I used to drive 3000+ miles in three days, and professional trucker can do even more.

Your options:
1, sell them off locally (keep some frags if you really in love with them)
2, ask people to pack and ship them to you overnight after you left, so they won't be in transit for days.

yes we will have air conditioning, we're going through the west texas desert afterall. ive been thinking of putting them in those disposable tupperwares with a bunch of holes punched in them (so the water can circulate all around) all immersed in a big cooler. i have a power port to outlet converter that can run a small minifridge so i think it can easily handle a heater and air pump w/airstone and a powerhead.

what im most interested in is the fact that if i can make them all survive the trip across the country im sure i could turn some of those grown out captive raised coral heads into profit or trades.

im planning on eventually growing corals in the sunlight out there anyways. probably in a homebuilt climate controlled greenhouse.

Actually, it would be nice if you'll share your experience once you're on the other side and you cooled off.

Drive carefully. 3000+ miles in four days is much more than I can do.

I would sell the corals and rebuy when you get set back up. 4 days is a long time to be in transit.

Don't drive through Arizona! They'll likely stop you at the border with anything live in the vehicle (just as California does in the other direction).

You can drive through AZ, just dont tell them you have anything alive..I drove 3000 miles in 2 and a half days but I wasnt in a UHAUL or anything....It goes by pretty fast in a sports car

where is the border check? maybe i can go around it. i was planning on taking the 10 freeway across. and a number of coolers full of water in the back is going to be kind of hard to hide. i was considering moving all my houseplants as well. maybe i should pack those into boxes and have them go in the moving truck. plants can go without light for 4 days.

im presently at this moment out in florida on the first day of my new job. ive been collaborating with my girlfriend in LA using skype and a headset over hotel highspeed internet to keep costs down.

There are border checks all across the Calif, Nv border going into AZ..All they'll ask is if you have any plants or whatever..just say no..If you dont look suspicious, they aint gonna search ya..My parents live in AZ and I was stationed in Cali...I made that trip frequently, even in a UHUAL...Its no big deal..I doubt they would even say no for the corals anyways..Its not like its some plant thats gonna kill off the native plants when it gets to florida...The reason why they ask that stuff is so people dont bring in plants that are banned into the state of AZ, Cali along with infestation of bugs, plant diseases and illegal contraband...I dont think corals are gonna fall into this category...
