I'm rearranging my aquascape at the moment. It's a 6 foot tank. I can post a pic what I have so far soon.

Look at pics of other people's tanks, there are plenty on this site to get you started.

With a 6-footer you will have lots of options, you could do a couple independent sub-reefs if you wanted. 8)

More importantly, how wide is the tank (front to back)? That will give us a better idea of the usable space...

I created 3 spur/groove type formations in my 6' tank with a lump of rock on the right side. Its great.. I can move to the right about 45 degrees and see right into the clefts (grooves) in the rockwork to the back... and the fish can swim not only thru those grooves, but thru gaps between the spur rocks too... very open, without feeling like its a bunch of tumbled rocks. However, I have 30" front to back space, so there's a good reach of space to play with involved.

I'm a fan of using less rock and not creating walls. A single, very unique feature adds a huge amount to a reef... something like a big arch connecting two bommies, or a verticle pinnacle of rock, or ....

Brian...splain, please.

:)

I was suggesting something along the lines of what Wade described - something more than just one big mound of rocks. You could have 2 mounds of rocks, for example.

This is what I have so far. I still need to build up the corners and I'm not liking the big rock in back. I'll probably create another high shelf along the far back wall. Then I'll just wait for the frags to grow out. 8)

Here is a recent picture that I added some ugly arrows and things to so as to illustrate what I was talking about with spur/groove formations.

Red is grooves between spurs (rock piles). Green shows the placement of the big bommie (that has 90% montirpora, zoos, and clove polyps on it... with one big bright bali slimer). All of the spurs are almost entirely acros.

The pic is a bit small to see a 6' tank in, but if you want to see the real picture:

The way I'm going to set up my new tank is A LOT of open water with just a single coral bloomie 1/3rd off center. My tank is only 52", so for 72", I'd imagine you can do two bloomies if you want to do this style. My old tank grew to be a packed house of coral, although it was crafted full of holes, caves, tunnels, and grottos. The pics really don't show how porous and open my rockwork was, mostly because the corals started to cover most of it. But now I want to try a "zen" open tank :)
