I didn't know where else to post this, so I'll post it here. If it needs moved, please do so with my apologies.

Below is a pic of my Devil's Finger that has, so far, been doing great. About 3-4 days ago, I noticed one of my Zebra hermits staying on the Finger. I moved him only to have him back there in a couple of minutes. Last night I noticed these "spots" on it. Is the hermit eating my coral or is it dying? It appears that the spots are starting at the base of just about every finger. Please help. TIA

I'm not sure what that is, but leathers are pretty hardy animals.

Until someone can give you an exact diagnosis, just make sure it is in a high-flow area of the tank to prevent detritus from collecting on it.

You might want to take a turkey baster and gently blow into the decaying area to see if it's actually decaying or just discolored.

Good luck!

are you sure the leathers are hardy? they're the first things to go in my tank =T following that are the mushrooms i have. Surprisingly though...the xenia frags i got are doing well so far after a week! :D and i thought they would be gone in a matter of days.

I'm only sad I had to throw the leather away. :(

my devil is doing the same thing just not at all the fingers. I was advised that this is the way they reproduce. The fingers will fall off and start a new hand. Mine has not fallen off yet but hoping this is what is happening.

How long has yours been doing this? I found a hitchiker crab a couple nights ago that I recently got out of the tank, but I don't think he was the culprit. Are you doing anything to help it, ie. frag it, etc? Other than these spots, it seems to be doing good. The polyps are all out, so I'm hoping this is what's happening too!

I've had that happen to my leather and it turned back to normal after a few days.

mine has been doing this for about three weeks or so i believe. I am not doing anything to help it.

Look up "devils hand help" thread by me (sompa) and you will find the advise I received along with my finger just starting to show pic and a pic of the one who advised

Make sure nothing stings it. I had my leather suffer from some yellow polyps stings. Now is all better.
