While looking for live stock for my new 46 gallon reef, i came across a clam that doesnt require as much light as most clams according to the link. I have never really heard about some "lower-light" clams, so i am pretty skeptical. In my 46 i will be running 380 watts of VHO, so would this be enough for this clam? And are clams very picky for new reefers? Please reply with your opinion.

I would think that you could easily keep a derasa under that lighting.

I had this Crocea in a 55 under 4x55 watt PC's and 2x40 watt NO's for a few years. It was up high on the rocks (5" away form the PC's) and did very well, as you can see it has green star polyps and Xenia growing on it.

I wouldn't recommend keeping Crocea's and Maxima's under your lighting. It can be done, just not recommended.

And I, after seeing what I surmise were either T. crocea or T. maxima (were buried pretty deeply in, couldn't get a look at shell construction) at depths of 20+ meters, can say that the lighting of some clams is not such a concern. (This was in water with fair visibility most of the time, around 10-20 meters most of the time.)

I kept my own T. derasa under NO only for a few years, until a mantis hammered it dead. :(
