oceanic is still too new and untested for me to put it in my tank. I use Kent and IO and have been for years.

I have used IO for years with no problems.

This past winter my LFS had a promotion on Oceanic. I really liked the sturdy jug with resealable screw top. The salt dissolved well and I had no problems using it in my FO tanks.

I opened the second jug this past week and did the usual - RO/DI water with the salt and a powerhead. I waited one day and did a 5% water change. To my surprise, the water was still cloudy. I did the water change and it took several days for the tank water to finally clear.

I made up another batch and after three days the water was still cloudy. I went to my LFS and bought another pail of IO and told them about my experience with Oceanic. This was the first complaint they had ever heard about this product. I offered to bring the Oceanic salt back to the LFS and let them try it out, but they declined.

I am not exactly sure what to do. Write a note to Oceanic, use the salt one cup at a time with the remainer being IO at water time, throwing it out.

My $.02.

I use IO and have used Coralife once before. The IO mixed better and seemed to work better IME. I never used oceanic though.

We've used Instant Ocean for decades now, and I doubt we'll ever switch to anything else.

Been using IO here for 3 years.

Alot of people have been reporting problems when switching to Oceanic. Not sure why, but it is still a pretty new salt that isn't time tested.

Sticking with IO, I see no need to switch.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I used to use IO and switched to oceanic. the price is the same. Oceanic has high Ca++ and Good Mg. where as my IO tested in the 380 range for ca and 800 to 900 for Mg. Since i have sps and clams i went for the higher ca and mg. Now Oceanic has a low alk and ph. I find it easier to raise the alk and ph then to raise the ca and mg . So i went with Oceanic. I had no problems switching from IO to Oceanic. I mix it for about an hour and do my water changes. no problems what so ever. If you have softies i would go with IO since ca and mg are not that critical, and IO does have a good track record. But for clams and sps and a few LPS i would run with Oceanic.

My oceanic ca tested 480 to 500 and Mg 1350 to 1400. Ph was 8.0 and alk was 2.0 m/eq. Since using Oceanic along wiht a kalk top off I do not dose Ca or Mg anymore, when i used IO i had to consistantly adjust my ca dosing and alk. especailly after a water change using IO. ca and mg would drop dramaticaly.

oceanic for me... consistently ~450ppm calcium, completely dissolves in under 5 minutes and seems to be very consistent from batch to batch (i've purchased so far from 3 separate locations).

Ditto on the Oceanic CA levels and MG levels...I had to switch from Tropic Marin which seems lately to be of poor quality but still of high price...

I just switched for the increased levels of CA and Mg compared to IO.

The IO was measuring CA=260, Mag=800 and Alk 10 DKH.
