No, they only grasp on the film algae and detritus. If you had it long enough, it may also snatch flakes, nori, and seafood in the current.

Mine never took bite on filamentous algae or macro algae.

damnhippo is correctamundo...they'll do nothing for an algae problem. Very, very cool fish, though...just make sure it is eating at the LFS if you do decide to pick one up!

I've got an LB in my QT/Macro tank. You can see it's bite marks all over the algae on the glass, but that's it. It mainly feeds on flakes and pellets.

LB can also be very fiesty and territorial, but they got lots of personality though.

Yup, I've got one, and the antics are great. Doesn't do much for the algae though.

Mine takes everything except hair algae. When I put a full shrimp in the tank for my olive snails, he's all over it. Herbivore my arse!

Mine nips at the hair algea I used to have. Filamentous algae show marks of where he ate it and he eats pellets too. When my tank was full of hair algea he always had a full stomach now that the hair is gone he is somewhat skinnier

Also, they can easily starve in a smaller tank with little film algae. I would not put one in anything smaller than a 55 personally.

Mine was aways rasping film algae from the glass. Once I cleaned the hair algae (which he wouldn't touch) off the rocks, he kept the rocks clean. Never had hair algae again. Also ate flake food, mysis and brine shrimp.

The key to a happy lawnmower, imo, is getting him to eat prepared foods. :D

I love my lm blennie. He does eat algae (off rocks and glass when he can) but not enough to be a one-man cleaning crew. Never seen him eat any prepared food and he is a gordo.

Lawnmower blennies are omnivors, they must prefer meats...bicolor blennies are herbivors though, how are they at eating algae
