What`s the best way to keep live rock viable?Right now I have quite a bit of extra rock that I`ll probably end up selling or trading. It came out of my tanks so it`s really good stuff. I want to keep it that way till I can move it to someone else. It`s in a large plastic tub with a heater and power head.No light except for what it recieves from two tanks nearby.Should I put a light over the tub?Should I be adding anything to the water? How long can you keep rock like this before it loses it`s "life".

thanks, pat

I think your in the right ball park, your gonna have some die-off no matter what. All i can say is do water changes since your not skimming. LR is pretty resilient. I've heard of people keeping LR in garbage bags( i wouldn't). No light is needed. Power head and heater is fine, just do WC's and check Ammonia and Nitrates. Should be fine. I've had LR in rubbermaids for weeks with the same setup, again WATER CHANGES. Once per week.

Thanks for posing this Patts, I was just getting ready to post the same question. I've got mine in buckets with heaters and power heads at the moment. Tomorrow I may go buy a 15 gallon AGA and throw my crappy single flourescent plastic FW hood on it. I'm hoping this will be enough light to keep things alive for a while.

Cheers,
Steve
