UV Sterilizer On A Reef Tank?

A good friend of mine gave me a new skimmer and a UV sterilizer to help me get my 46 gallon tank running. I hooked up the skimmer, and it is awswome. I am amazed at the difference between it and my old skimmer. I was wondering about the UV sterilizer for the tank though. I have not seen many used on reefs before, so i dont know if i should put it on my reef or just use it on my cichlid tank. Would anyone recommend putting the UV sterilizer on a reef tank, or should i just put it on my freshwater?

I would use it on the FW tank. They're not really used on reef tanks. Large FO tanks have them sometimes, but that's a whole 'nother issue.

I would sell it.
I certainly wouldn't bother installing it on any tanks, either freshwater or marine. I've definitely never needed one. At best they're a crutch to mask poor husbandry.

I've seen tang nuts keep them to hopefully reduce ich.

No a fish person myself, but I don't feel your generation a very good thing to say, Jim. I know you are just being humorous and harmless.

There are some merit about using UV on fish only tank, but in most incidences, it is not recommanded due to the small payoffs. The use of it does not necessary reflect the intelligence of some of the tang lovers.

Relax buddy. There are tang people that are not very smart, just as there are people doing anything that are not very smart. The world is full of dumb people, just walk outside. There are tons of smart people here, gobs even. But that doesn't change certain things.

When I stop reading posts about people refusing to quarantine, then getting ich outbreaks, I'll reverse my position - mkay? Thinking a UV sterilizer is the way to prevent disease represents a point of veiw that is a bit "challenged" in more ways than one.
