I have a Berlin Turbo and I think the turdo pumps suck. So instead of buying the Euroreef I cannot afford right now, I was thinking of using an Ocean Runner 2700(needle wheel($59)) to replace my turbo pump. Anybody have any experiences or comments on the pump or my idea?

Thanks in advance.

I've thought about using a couple of 2700s or 3700s for a DIY recirculating needlewheel skimmer. I have no experience with the needlewheel variety, but I've used the OR 2500 pump (same pump, non-needlewheel flavor) and liked it.

FWIW, AquaMedic uses OR needlewheels on their skimmers (some of which are pretty high-end)...

If you try it out please let us know how it works for you.

my friend has it. it diy-ed a skimmer using it and it works great. i will try to take some pics this weekend when i go over for xmas. so far, he loves the ocean runner but i dont have any experience with it and the berlin skimmer. the way my friend designed his skimmer is like the asm/euroreef, and it looks like a lot of bubbles is produced so you need a tall and wide riser neck or less it will be very wet skim.

I will change to the OR after the new year. I will let you all know how it works out.

That's right Chris, the OR needlewheel is an option on the Turboflotor.

Thanks for the responses.
