Tis the season when everyone is shopping and so are my fish. I have a 255gallon FWLR tank and want to install an in-sump protein skimmer. Any recommendations? The Berlin Protein skimmer has been recommended to me but I am open to other opinions. I want to do it right the first time.

Thanks for the suggestions - I will do some research on pricing, accessory equipment requirements and availability!

You can run becket skimmers in sump with a submersible pump. I had an in sump MR-2 on my 110 mixed that I drove with a mag18. On my 60 I will be using a Euroreef CS5-2. Since I have used both I would probably get a Euro type over the becket. Just a personal preference.

Sounds like the Euroreef system is preferred but ouch - the price is so much higher for a system that will service a 255 gallon tank! Anyone else had good experience with the ASM equipment?

Keep in mind that the Euroreef/ASM etc include pumps. When you add the price of a pump to a becket skimmer the differince gets a lot more reasonable.

ASM is one of the orignal partners of Euroreef. Same pump and concept, ASM just uses less expensive plastics.

My Euroreef has been running for close to a decade. Put in that context, it's really not that expensive an investment ;)

Sounds like you get what you pay for! To have any piece of equipment in a saline environment work for 10 years is saying something! Thanks for the honest feedback!
