I had recently gotten back into the hobby after a one year break. I have since set up a new 75 gallon tank, cycled it, and stocked it, but my newly purchased Aqua C Remora Pro with Mag 3 pump is foaming/bubbling a lot, but everything in the skimmer collection cup is clear. There is no discoloration at all, it looks just like the water in the tank, clear. I have 130 lbs of live rock with a lot of soft corals and a 4" live sand bed, but it still is not producing any waste. I have added an additional powerhead to the 1 that was already in the tank to help agitate the surface of the tank water, but still no gunk in the collection cup. The surface water is defintely being agitated enough, and I am not sure what the problem is. I have had the Aqua C Remora Pro with the Mag 3 pump running on my 75 gallon reef for only 1 week so I am not sure if it needs longer to break in or not. Also I did ensure to clean the collection cup and skimmer with warm (NOT soapy) water as well. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Also the skimmer produces so many bubbles it overflows the cup constantly. I know I could add a hose to the collection cup and connect it to a bucket, but I am more curious if this may be why I am getting all clear water since it is producing so many bubbles. No or very few micro bubbles are going back into the tank however, which is a plus. Still no scum in the collection cup though.

Did you wash the skimmer in warm water before hooking it up like it says in the instructions?

Are you adding any chemicals (slime coat, etc.) to the water?

Have you raised the collection cup as high as it can go?

Just a few thoughts.

Thanks for the response. Yes. I did wash it thoroughly with warm water before using it. Yes, I have raised the collection cup as high as it can go as well, but unfortunately still clear water. I have not added any checmicals at all so that shouldn't be an issue. Any other ideas? Thanks again.

Also you could try running it for a while without the collection cup on it just to see if you can get it to quit overflowing.

Thanks for your responses I appreciate it. Does anyone know if it is normal for the Aqua C Remora Pro with the Mag 3 pump to take over a week before producing any noticeable scum from the water? Thanks again.

I have an Urchin Pro which is the sump version of the Remora and it started producing waste about 4 days after installion in a brand new tank, so it may start at any moment, otherwise contact Aqua C's customer service. They are very good, and the product is excellent.

After 9 days it really should be pulling some scum. But then again the fact that it is still quickly overflowing the tank makes me wonderif there is something about your water that is affecting your surface tension. Did you recently do anything like use a lot of epoxy or anything in the tank? Do you run carbon? I would also try to remove the cup and let it foam without collecting for a day.
