I have a Yellow Tang in the 120 FOWLR. 3 weeks ago he developed a spot on his left side. We were told not to worry it should clear up in time. But it hasn't.

I was looking a bit more closely at the spot this evening. It has grown (about 1/8 inch now) and appears that the fish's flesh is being bored into. The wound is not deep, no blood or scraped tissue, but is definately an indentation that appears almost tattered. The spot is a dark (black) circle, looks like a raised ring in his skin.

I am sorry, I do not have a digital camera, so no pictures are available.

I am asking if anyone out there may know what this is or what might be causing it and how to treat it. I think it might be a parasite of some sort, but I'm not sure.

Any info you could give would be greatly appreciated.

It could be an bacteria infection. You'll need a quarentine tank to administer gram-negative antibiotics. If antibiotics doesn't work, I'd attempt a formalin bath to rule out other forms of infection like fungus.

I have only one other tankmate in there with the fish, so could I treat the whole tank with the antibiotic?

Reason I ask is that I don't have a QT set up right now (I know - it's on the list of must dos).

It doesn't look painful, but I don't want the fish to suffer.

Thanks
Chris
