Hello,
Looking to replace my skimmer on my 55 Gallon reef, it's a SuckClone skimmer now, and I want to get a better one!

I've heard good things about both these skimmers.
Any Pros/Cons?

Thanks

I've never used both to give you a comparison but I really like the Remora pro. It started pulling out thick nasty gunk really quickly. I was amazed at the crap in my tank..ughh. Make sure to get the skimmer box if you go with the RP. And set the collection cup high, so you'll get more foam and less watery goop.

I have used both the BakPak and the Remora. IMO the Remora is a bit better performer.

That said, on a 55 gallon tank I would use the Remora Pro or something of equivalent size/performance.

I would go for the remora. The CPR, IMO, isn't big enough for any tank more than 40-50 gallons.

I've used both - the Remora is WAY superior because of it's injector. Get a Remora, but opt for a bigger power head.

The CPR in many respects isn't much better than the Seaclone. These type skimmers rely on a power head and several feet of plumbing, which causes bubbles to clump and lose efficiency. Big reason the needle wheel skimmers blow them away - the power head.

I use a Remora with a drilled hole in the side that feeds a long length of airline tube as a drain so I never have to remove the collection cup. I also run it 'cross tank' with the power head on the other side. This means I get perfect cross tank filtration. The amount of crud removed by my Remora is unbelieveable.

Welcome to RDO, blastermqn!

I agree with most of the accessment above, and I used both CPR's BakPak and AquaC Remora Pro skimmers. However, I disagree with the pairing of BakPak with SeaClone. IME, BakPak is better than SeaClone for 60 gal tank.

I agree the CPR is the better skimmer, but will be more similiar to the SeaClone than the Remora in long term operation.

It's the confounded powerheads driving these things that make them so inefficient. I've seen CPRs at fish shops blowing a small stream of 1/8" bubbles, and producing a few oz's of skimmate a month. At full blast my Remora will fill a 5gal bucket over night with yellow water- and I'm not exagerating.

Somebody needs to come up with a dedicated power head design for skimmers vs a powerhead with a venturi as an afterthought. If you could pump a dense stream of fine bubbles through even a SealClone, it would be 10x as efficient.

(I agree that the remora is a better skimmer but the Mag pump on it is so ugly inside of a tank.)

The surface prefilter box hides the pump and also skims the surface of the water.
