Reefy stuff to do in South Texas?

Hi all, I am going to be spending the week after Christmas in South Padre Island TX. (And a few days in Austin).

I was wondering if there was anything reef related that would be fun to do while down there, if anyone has any recomedations. Is there anywhere we could go snorkling? Or good LFS to visit? Maybe a good public aquarium?

The premier dive off Texas is the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary. It is too deep for snorkeling, about 100 miles offshore, and you will need to depart from Freeport, TX. http://www.flowergarden.nos.noaa.gov .

Most of the reefs in the Gulf are towards the Eastern coastline.
