I like the look that I get with an airstone in the tank all blown around by the wavemaker. It makes it look like waves crashing over the reef. Are little bubbles bad for the corals? Or for sponges or my gorgonian? I rememeber reading somewhere that corals use microbubbles to feed using the same idea as a protein skimmer. Perhaps the bubbles are good? And they mean more O2.

Hmm...

Any idea where you might have read that at?

Also, are you using a wooden airstone to get really fine bubbles or are you talking coarser ones like you'd get from a regular airstone? (I'd think the salt creep would be a much lesser issue with the finer bubbles, they're not going to pop as "violently" and probably also look a lot more "realistic" I would think..)

It's a coarser airstone. Not too many problems with salt creep because my plexiglass cover fits on tightly, though I suppose it might start to block light after a while.

Sorry, I don't remember where I read that. I don't even know if it was in the hobby scene or the marine biology scene.

I've read that too, and I think it was in one of Sprung and Delbeeks' books, but I just did a quick look through now and couldn't see it.
(helpful, eh?)
