A few days ago i acquired another batch of Xenia then some more last night. During this procedure i put Xenia in all 4 of my aquariums, mixed Red Sea and Elongata. It is pulsing and looking good in all my tanks but one. My 29 gallon Xenia is not pulsing at all and not looking great, the others looks fine. The other corals in said tank look great and nothing is closed. Anyone know what causes the pulsing action and what could be missing not allowing it to pulse ?

Don't know if there's a correlation there or not, but when I'm overskimming mine will pale out slightly and slow their pulsing. They also slow/stop their pulsing if they don't like the temp (too warm or too cold) or if the salinity is too high or too low for them. They also seem to be affected by lighting that way too.. - Not enough and they start to droop/slow pulse.. Same with flow.. - Too little and they seem to slow/stop.

Haven't seen how they react to too much lighting yet, but if I can manage to scrape together another $700 for the lighting upgrade I'm trying for maybe I can let you know before long..

Same goes with too much flow.. - Don't know how they react to that.. - I've got mine in a spot I would consider too much flow if I were them, but they seem to be doing just fine with it.. (Looks like they're going to get ripped in 1/2 by the current 15 minutes out of every hour when the powerheads are all on and really churning things up...)

HTH,
Norm

Mine pulse fine all throught the day and my temp fluctuates up to 5 degrees. The only time they dont pulse is when lights out.

Xenia pulsing is a tough one... definitely not something scientific on this kind of discussion.

Anyway, make sure they are getting sufficient light, and have good circulation/air exchange(via skimmer). Other thing to watch is alk and pH.

I can tell you for sure that it has nothing to do with calcium or iodine, but the four parameters mentioned above should give you enough to work on. I assume it is expanded, and in good healthy shape...

They are begninng to grow like weeds too and I love it, seeing on how I thought I failed when I first put them in there. They shrunk and died off to the size of a ball point of a pen. Now they are starting to cover a second rock

Mine seem to slow down if the alk. drops. No idea why but when they slow down or stop I know it's time to add buffer. Yeah Yeah I know I should test but I'm lazy and it works for my tank.
