Don't dose with eyrthromycn(sp) if you have a skimmer ~whistle~ wow that thing went nuts once the anti-bacterial medicine disolved. Used 250mg in a 10g nano reef, had to turn the skimmer off before it drained the tank lol, wish me luck =/

Any proper set of instructions for using EM to eradicate cyanobacteria would have warned about the skimmer.

The air supply to the skimmer needs to be greatly reduced during the treatment.

No instructions with the meds, and its out dated.

12 hours later and I still can't turn the skimmer back on lol, the cyno seems to be dieing off and the corals still look ok thats thats good.

Need to get the skimmer back on to help fight the dieing algae ugh lol, oh well thast why this is an experimental tank w/o fish in it.

It's my understanding that all the "medication" does is allow the organics to dissolve through oxidation. In other words, if you don't run the skimmer it wont do anything. Also using UV or carbon will negate it's affect as well. I used some German brand, antired IIRC. Certainly sent the skimmer through the roof and took 4 doses, once every week for four weeks. I didn't run any lights for 24 hours after dosing and ran a reduced lighting of 6 on 18 off for the next four days. Oh, after 48 hours do a good water change and remove as much cyano as you can by hand before and after dosing. Anyway it worked and the cyano is all gone. Good luck fighting the red devil himself!

It was Erythromycin, which is just an anti bacterial medication, the same thing you get 90% of the time when you visit a Dr. Yes I really wish the skimmer was running to break it down as it dies, most of the cyno is gone now after just about 20 hours, but the skimmer still can't be turned on lol. Just leaving it off for now, all looks well in the tank, the Xenia usually let me know instantly if something is wrong.

I use the meds in freshwater planted tanks to get past the initial red slime outbreaks, and it has worked really well and never comes back, so figured I'd give it a go in my reef.
