I currently have 3 Yellowtail Damsels, a Firefish, a Steintz Goby, and a Neon Goby in my 72 gallon bowfront along w/ a Yellow Tang. Everyone gets along just fine. It's even funny sometimes to watch the Firefish try and do the "sideways dance" at one of the yellowtails...

The Neon Goby cleans my Tang all the time but the most I ever see of the Steintz Goby is his head peeking out when it's feeding time. (I think he cleans the sand at night...)

Hope that helped.

I love the blue and green chromis. They are fairly small, pretty docile, and school so they look neat. Plus they are dirt cheap. Pajama cardnials are cool to. They school also but are a little bigger. I've never had pajama cardnals though so I'm just parroting what I've heard but I have 3 blue chromis in my 75 and love em.

No, mine are not picky. They are hogs. They eat flake fine, frozen brine fine, and go after anything that moves including bubbles. If they are generally picky then I got lucky but I have never heard that before.

Yellowtail or blue or green damsels should be fine in a schools though sometimes they do mock-chase tankmates. I have an orange damsel (Neoglyphidodon polyacanthus I think) who establishes herself as the Big Mama of the tank. Whenever my small Heniochus sees her approaching he'll do the fish equivalent of tiptoeing sideways and pretending he didn't see nothing, when in fact he had been chompin on some choice food. Very funny to watch.

Have you considered a lawnmower blenny? Mine is a real cutie with lots of personality. Just make sure he is eating at the lfs if you decide to get one! :D

The Royal Gramma can be territorial and may be aggressive towards the firefish. If the Firefish are threatened they hide. I have three and they are out and about all the time. The Neon, Two Clowns and the Firefish will definately get along fine. Have you considered a six Line Wrasse? THey are very cool and active :)

You can keep 2 firefish in a 10g as long as they're male and female (not always easy to tell apart,, look for two hanging around together at your LFS). Firefish are good jumpers so a covered tank is definitely recommended.

I have the following in my 75:

Pair pink skunk clowns (spawning)
Pair Firefish (spawning)
Pair yellow Clown Gobies (spawning,,, waiting for tonight's hatch right now)
Molly Miller Blenny juvenile (temporary resident I think,,, won't stop nipping at corals)
Pair Oscellaris clowns - Female is a Black & White,, male is standard orange,, acting like they're going to spawn soon.

Yes, I like to see happy, spawning fish. I wouldn't be pleased if someone locked me in a cage with an armadillo, a giraffe, and a bunch of other stuff I couldn't hump, so I try not to force that situation on my fish. :)

They are all fairly small fish,,, they all have their territories and there is very little aggression. With all the lurve going on it's a very interesting tank. I don't recommend mixing clown species,, I've been lucky and will probably remove the oscellaris to another tank when they start spawning.

Chromis and Clowns aside, I'd stay away from damsels as the most common/cheap types can get cranky as they get older. That's just my personal experience,, I'm sure there are others who have really nice old damsels.

well 2 fire fish are on the list then, lol its odd but for some reason i thought that 2 Oscellaris clowns would fight if one was a black n white and the other was normal, hehe didnt realise they were colour blind :)
good job with all that lurve n keep it up

Well,, I think the oscellaris know they're the same species somehow,, just different color variations,, they're both picking/cleaning a patch of rock right now which is a sign they might be thinking about spawning,, not sure what the offspring will look like.

>>ie which is the hardyist

I guess clowns have a reputation for hardiness, but any fish will be fine if it's acclimated properly and the tank has fully cycled. You should be more bothered about stocking the tank slowly and placing the most territorial fish in last.

Good luck!

Osc. clowns, either black or white, and pink skunks are social and enjoy the company of other clowns. The ones you cant mix are maroon, tomato, cinnimon...maybe others but those are the ones I know.

Many sw fish change sex to meet the demand of their enviornment. I'm not sure about the firefish but its worth a try to research it. Like clowns you can just buy 2 smaller ones and are basically sure that they will be male/female 8)
