My heater broke and did not shut off, woke up this morning tank was 87+ degrees. The only thing in the tank is substrate and liverock, did I just turn my liverock into dead rock or will she be ok? Also what heater would you recommend for a 30 gallon tank, as I will be buying a new one and making sure this doesn't happen again.

Rock should be OK, but there can be a bit of die off is there are some critters that are not very heat tolerant... watch your ammonia.

I use Ebo J's... FWIW.

Won Pro also makes a titanium heater. If you consider one, get the non digital kind.

Your LR should be fine.

Cyberkiller,

People were having some issues with the digital Won Pros a few years back. When I say non digital, I am only refering to Won Pro. Good luck!

I had the WON titanium heater with the digital read out and it broke in just over a year. It froze in the on position. I just replaced it with a glass ebo-jaber, seems like a very popular heater. I would avoid the won one, JME.

All my heaters are non digital Won Pros and I have not had a problem!!! I do use a separate thermeter to set them as the little dial they have is not very accurate IMO.

I will never EVER have a glass heater again, having had the living snot shocked out of me by a cracked glass heater in the tank. Fool me once, shame . . . shame on . . . you, fool me—can't get fooled again!

Don't worry.....everything will be just fine. Just watch your water parameters for the next two week. DO NOT DO A WATER CHANGE.....ok do one if you are neurotic. If your ammonia goes up then use Ammo Block 2. Just my opinion. This has worked for me.
