For all those unable to get into #reefs,

#reefs has moved to irc.afterx.net due to Xnet's migration. Please change your server settings to irc.afterx.net (port 6667).

Due to some difficulties with the registrar, xnet domain is inactive. Please use irc.afterx.net to connect for the time being. Please spread the word.

Shane,
It's a temporary change, but we will more than likely not be going back to the Xnet name. The network itself will remain, just a change in name.

I doubt we'll move any time soon. Every other reefkeeping channel is there and it makes it easy for everyone to network and talk about stuff. ;) Thanks for the offer tho!

Looks like AfterX.net will be the permanent name. Currently we have servers in the US, Sweden, and Norway.

Using irc.afterx.net will randomly place you on a server (round robin). I would suggest using us.afterx.net if you reside in the Americas, and eu.afterx.net if your reside anywhere else on the planet. Using a server close to home (relatively speaking) is always a good idea.

There are plans to add new servers very soon. I'll keep you all updated as changes occur.

AfterX is under attack. A sustained ddos since about 10pm eastern last night has effectively shut down the network. Hopefully the kiddiot will get bored and move on soon. Sorry for any inconvenience.

As you know, the IRC network is under attack. It's been sustained for over 8 hours now. So we've added a temporary server which isn't affected by the attack.

Use /server 207.6.123.209 6659 to connect
or /server 207.6.123.209:6659 depending on your IRC client.

Sorry for this, and I hope it ends soon.

the isp could shut them down with about 5 minutes worth of work but apparently thats way to fricken difficult for them to install a ddos filter on the router that would remove these ddos packets and send them to tbe bit bucket...

I'm using XChat, I'll try entering in the IP and port manually, as I haven't had any luck with any of the other URLs.

no

there's evidently a script kiddie that's attacking the network due to the presence of one particular channel

that channel has been asked to leave in the hopes that the DoS attacker will then follow 'em along and stop

at least that's the gist of it from what i've heard

hth

in the meantime you shoudln't have any problems if you connect via jim's numerical ip server posted up above

It appears the attack is coming from multiple sources, one of which we've eliminated. A disgruntled server admin whose link application was recently denied had some "friends" issuing a little payback. However servers are still being attacked. The hunt continues. I'll keep you posted.

At the risk of of jinxing things ;) it appears the attack is finally over. Using irc.after.xnet eu.afterx.net or us.afterx.net should work. If not then dns caching hasn't caught up with itself yet, and should very soon.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience!

:)
