i have a 220g (6ft long) fish only with 220lbs of live rock and i need to up my flow alot. ill only have about 1000gph coming from my external in sump pump, so i want to add a tunze stream pump but not really sure which one i need. i basically want to have alot of good, consistent flow throughout the tank (no dead spots) but i dont want to have alot turbulence or areas where fish get blown away if they swim they swim within two feet of it. im trying to decide between the 6080 (2250gph) and the 6060 (1600gph).
I dont mind paying more money for the 6080 model, but im scared that when i put it in, that the side its on will be too turbulent for my fish. ive heard they were strong. but im also scared that if i buy the 6060 that it wont cover my whole tank. any advice will be appreciated.
thanks

why dont you go with one of the kits that have the controllers with them? . i wish i could remember the link that i saw...they had a tank that was smaller than yours, and had two of the 3000gph on either side of the tank facing eachother. thats a loooooot a flow

well because i feel like a 3000gph model will be too much flow and money for a fish only. does anyone know if the 6080 will cover the entire length of 6ft tank?

I got the Kit TS07, 6000 pump and controller. I really like it so far. It is in a 75 and you can feel the water moving on the opposite side but it is not real strong. If you watch the things floating in the column you can see they are moving quite well. But for a 6' tank I think I would go with the larger one. I say go with Kit TS12. You can always dial it back if need be.

Tunze recommends the 6100 Streams for 6' long tanks. The 6000 will only push water about 4'. The 6100 is adjustable from 30% to 100% of the 3000gph flow. I think that you can do that even if you are not using the multicontroller. You cannot, though, put them on a wavemaker other than the Tunze multicontroller. It will cause the pump to wear out prematurely.

For reference I have 2 of the 6100s (3100gph) on a 215 gallon tank (6x2x2.3). THough you will spend more on the controllable pumps the ability to vary the speed / interval on the Streams is a feature not to be overlooked.

One of the best purchases I have ever made for my tank.

If you want it straight from the source go to reefcentrals vendor forum for Tunze or maybe you can see if roger (tunze USA rep) will post here - his screen name is RVitko on both boards.

Is the 6100 all you have in your 215g tank (plus the return from your sump?

Is that enough flow for anything one would ever put in there?

I have 2 maxijet 1200s also - I think the flow is more than sufficient and with placement and using the Tunze controllers you can get decent flow. One individual 6100 will make noticable water movement even at the opposite end of my tank - I have them slighty offset at opposite ends of the tank cycling on and off. My corals took a little time to adjust but really seem to appreciate the flow as evidenced by serious polyp extension on my stonies.

I have two 6080s in my 150g and my fish handle the flow without any problem:
