I just pruchased a nice Galaxy Coral and am aware that its sweepers are deadly to other corals. However, I'd like to know if this coral will harm mushroom anemones/corals. I have it near some of my mushroom corals. Since they are "false corals" and very hardy, I was thinking they would not be harmed, but thought it best to find out for certain. Are mushrooms also hurt by Galaxy Corals?

Hi jmquay and welcome to Reefs.org! :P

Galaxea sp corals have nasty long sweeper tentacles (upwards of 8" long) and they'll sting anything that gets within reach. Your mushrooms will be hurt by them if they get hit.

We had ours next to a red mushroom and the mushroom killed off some of the Galaxia. And yeah, keep them sweepers away from other corals.

I have a type with shorter sweeper tentacles, which I have had for about 6 years, tripling in size, with the tentacles no longer than 6 inches. If you can place it in current above or in front of the other inhabitants, it may not bother anything too much. Still, anything in contact with the tentacles better be hardy!
