ok, Aside from " you could suffocate your fish" what harm could I do if I were to add more sand o my tank without taking out the inhabitants and LR???

I dunno...

I added more sand without removing my livestock and had no problems.

Tank was cloudy for a bit, no fish seemed to mind. I had to use a turkey baster to blow some sand off the LR and corals, but they didnt seem to mind either....

the best way to add sand to an established tank is a few inch diameter pvc pipe, pour the sand in the pvc pipe, it wont disturb the fish, have to do bits at a time... but you dont wanna just dump it all in anyway... sure you can but i dont really think its the smartest thing to do.

OK ok ok. Prior to this post I added about 7 lbs of fine aragonite to my tank. I thought it would be a risk but the fish would survive. Well I was dead wrong 3 of my 5 fish died. The three odlest fish in the tank!! ALl I had in my tank were a bunch of trouchus snails, blue spot hermits, a oc clown and his bta and a neon Psuedo ( which I thought was dead). I added 6 green chromis (which I have 3 left) and a lawnmower blenny a few days ago. I am thinking of adding a purple fire fish next.

I added 2 - 20lb bags of sand at once and about 1/2 of the inverts died. The were buried and couldn't climb to the top of the sand. Maybe I should have scooped them up first. I figured they live in the sand, the will climb out...................wrong.
