I had great luck with my Prizm...until I sold it!

Having used a euroreef 8-2 on my previous tank (which worked great but had problems), I have now downgraded. I am now using the new bak pak, and I must say, it works much better than the one I first bought 4 or so years ago. Throw down the 120 for a new bak pak...it is the only hang on skimmer that seems to work (I have tried Red Sea and the ancient Mombassa).

I run a red-sea berlin on my 135, and it's been a gem. Had this beast for years.

This is a VERY expencive hobby if you cant handle it you can always have a freshwater tank.
The good stuff is nearly always the most costly, moaning about a $50 ebay skimmer, are you kidding?

Avoid The Red Sea Berlin. I have the turbo and it sucks. I have heard the same from the berlin. Plus Prism is made by Red Sea as well.

At least the Seaclone can be modified. Go for a Euro Reef or an AquaC. Money well spent.

imo,the original berlin skimmer is a very fair skimmer for up to a 75, and can be modded to accomodate a larger tank, by switching out the venturi for a mazzei :)

the original model that doesn't use the pump as the venturi is what ran my 75 for 4 yrs, i had excellent results w/it

there are companies that make both good, AND cheesy, skimmers

That's the same skimmer I'm running, and i couldn't be more pleased. Guess you'll hear both sides of the story with most equipment.

Howdy,

I have used alot of different types of skimmers and have found the following:

Red Sea Berlin (original) - Works well on smaller tanks (upto 75g)
Red Sea Prizm - Peice of crap, way too noisy and very finicky
Sea Clone - Worst skimmer ever!
CPR BakPak - works well for tanks upto 60g
AquaC Remora Pro - BEST HOB skimmer ever!
AquaC EV150 - One of the top sump skimmers around
EuroReef CS6-3 - Best skimmer ever!
Das BX-2 - good sump skimmer but overpriced
ETSS 800 - Mine broke in transit, so I just returned it.

As you can see, I sort of have a skimmer fetish. I don't necessarily need all the skimmers I own, but I sure like to try out different ones to see which is best.

I am planning on getting a MTC HSA skimmer next because I have heard great things about them. I will probably go with a EuroReef CS8-1 with dual pumps or a large AquaC EV series for the tank I am planning right now.

All I can tell you about skimmers is, you get what you pay for. The other piece of advice is, always buy a skimmer that is rated for a bigger tank than what you have. You will undoubtedly upgrade tank size, so think ahead when buying the skimmer.

Peace.
