Hello,

I am looking for some advice on what killed my two tanks. I came home today and both of my tanks were very cloudy and the water was green, so cloudy that I could not see anything inside. I have two tanks in the same room and were checked at 11:30pm last night, they were fine, and at around 3:30am they were both in this condition. What I can't understand is that in a four hour period both tanks are dead but are completely independant from each other.

Everything is dead.

The sump(the entire area underneath) on my 67 gallon was full of bubbles, looked like a bathtub full of Mr Bubble.

Any ideas??
Sorry for the long post and thanks for any help.
Scott.

:? And you have a third tank in the same room, and it is completely fine?

See if you can save anything by moving them to the third tank... maybe water change is needed to flush out the cloudy/green stuff in the water. this really suck :(

did you water change recently or add/change top off water? could be a bad batch of water.

anyone use any household cleaners in the room?

if they both show the same symptoms i would think external/room influences like the above. sorry to hear about your disaster. :(

I did a water change on the 10 gallon on Sunday. The 67 gallon I did one three weeks ago Sunday. My third tank(30 gallon) is gone, my ex took it back. No cleaning products have been used in this room recently. I have tested my RO/DI water and it is fine(haven't got a TDS but I am going to get one today).
It certainly seems like someone put something in the tanks. My ex is crazy, I wouldn't put it past her.

Thanks again, Scott.

My Domino Damsel in the 67 is dead, anemone dead, purple torch dead for sure. I can't see in the tank enough to see. There is a dead bristleworm hanging from some live rock and a lot of dead snails and hermits in the areas I can see. There is a spider web like film all over everything as well as an algae bloom. I have been taking the shop vac to the bubbles and they keep on building up. I am going to test the tank waters right now.

Thanks, Scott.

I have no kids and there is no cleaning products used around my tanks. I also have no macros. I was about to get some but it looks like I'm starting over.

tell the ex that the big tank crashed but NOT the nano.

see if she has a genuine reaction or a puzzled one. there shouldn't be any puzzlement why one crashed versus the other since they're separate systems. both of them tanking is the mystery here.

(can you tell i'm divorced?)

Ammonia, WOW. 8O

I suspect fowl play. Piss off a girlfriend lately or any other friend that has access to your tanks?

Man this sucks, we all feel your pain bro. Wish we could help in someway!

any tissues in nearby wastebaskets?

people are generally lazy, spiteful people can even get cocky. professionals don't leave a trail. maybe you'll get lucky and find a trail.

dang! i'm already condemning the ex. see what divorce court really does?!

maybe she's innocent. it's just pretty suspicious to me.

With ammonia at that level, you need to get anything that is alive out of the tank ASAP... do you have the third tank that you can use? Are you ready to do massive water change?

Everything in the 10 gallon is almosst certainly dead. Over 6 ppm of ammonia and 25 ppm nitrite in a nano spells disaster.

Actually, this whole tank crash is a disaster.

man, this must suck. Its like your LR bacteria decided to pack up and leave.

Especially with the algae bloom, someone mustve dumped something in the tanks. Otherwise, with your setup, i cant begin to imagine what else happened. Stuff like this usually doesnt happen overnight unless its intentional.

I have seen something similar before... My roommate in college spilled a beer in the tank. Similar symptoms and everything died. I haven't really thought about why a beer would do this, but it did. Almost killed my roommate after I found out what caused it. Found someone different to live with the next year. It was an accident, but I was seriously pissed. I really hate that your tanks got hosed. Sorry to hear it.

I have cleaned out the 10 gallon and put all the corals as well as three hermits that survived. Doesn't look good for any of the corals but the polyp rock seems to be getting better. I am going to empty the 67 gallon Monday. It has been confirmed, it was the ex and she dumped Windex in the tanks. Don't understand, broke up amicably months ago. ???????????

Thanks for the posts, Scott.
