running skimmer wet (EUROREEF)

i just bought a euroreef skimmer and was wondering what running the skimmer wet means ? the booklet says raise pipe for desired foam but what is the difference?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,thanks

Running it wet means there will be alot of liquid in the collection cup, as opposed to just a bunch of thicker gunk. I suggests you skim it each way for a while then decide which way worked out best for your system.

As far as I know wet means you get a lot of gunk, buy you loose more actual salt water to. Slowly lowering you salinity.
What kind of euroreef did you get?

Right now, my es6-1 skimmer is running with lot of liquid in the collection cup. If it is true, It will slowly lower the SG in my tank. what is the best solution to run the Euroskimmer?

I run both my Euro-reefs to have black (darker than coffee) colored liquid in the cup, probably a 1/2" per day, and thick crud in the tube of the skimmer cup. When I remove the cup, there is no crud in the body of the skimmer.

It takes the skimmer a while to break in, how long have you had yours ? I have the foam level set where it is just visible in the cup. After that, I never have to adjust them.

Current trends seem to say that running it wet takes out more organics and gunk than running it dry.

If you run it wet, to avoid SG changes, all you have to do is replace the amount of water taken out by the skimmer with new salt water.

I'd agree with Righty except that you need to monitor your SG in regards to adding salt water..

I have run my Euro both wet and dry and yes, it will lower SG (and affect skimmer performance because of that) but when I've run mine wet it still doesn't pull enough salt out to require all makeup water to be salt.. (Not that that's what it seemed you meant Righty, just clarifying....)

FWIW: IME, there didn't seem to be much benefit in running wet vs. dry. But that's just my experience... YMMV..

More clarification:

I have a fresh water auto top off, which it totally independant of the following.
My skimmer has a drain in the collection cup that drains into a bucket. When the bucket gets about 1/2 full I dump it and add 1/2 bucket of Saltwater to the sump.

The smaller your system the more you have to worry about sg changes.
