When to replace calcium Reactor media

I am moving my cac. reactor to my new system. The two chambers reactor has been running for 6 months. The first chamber is still have full the second chamber is 3/4 full still. Should I just add fresh media or replace all the old media. The old media is not mush o and looks in very good condition.

As long as the media is not mushy, it is fine leaving the way it is. Some of us just jump the used media in the sand, so there is no waste of any kind.

I am a bit puzzle about the fact that the second chamber has a less media than the first... usually it is the other way around :?

The first chamber has less media NOT more than the second chamber. The firs chamber had some muchy powder. I rinsed the whole media & added to it.

What I have done with my media when becomes mushy is to rinse it in tap water, then add what is left, probably not much but it is better than throwing it all to the toilet IMO:

Sorry, I did not realize that have == 1/2.

Some people like to shake the reactor to get the mushy media out. although it is harmless, it can get the reactor to dump lots of white particle into the tank, making it very cloudy white for a few days.
