how to calculate Water volume

Ok I'm feeling a little foolish posting this, but I've looked around and found calculators to do water volume for me but what is the actual equation

How do I convert inches to gallons I guess is the question
If I have a 5x5x5 inch box ... how much water is that
I'm looking for the formula and not just a web page to plug it into

LxWxH/231=gallons

So that would be around 1/2 gallon.

Don't forget to subtract the volume of internal overflows!

overflow on that thing.... no but a good post as I didn't add that in my plans, brain fart on my part
I just pulled those numbers out of thin air for the original post
I'm going to DIY a few things for a MiniBow7 in a couple months
Will be getting my tank the end of this month
I have a great girl friend who is supporting me getting into saltwater as she is the one getting me the tank
