Anyone here try the shark dive? It says it's two hours, but I wonder how much time is actually in the water.

I've swam with sharks in Hawaii and Carribean, in the ocean, definitely gets the heart thumping. I'm just not sure it's worth the $155.00 per person.

I went diving in Hawaii recently, we ran into Tiger sharks and Reef Whitetips. Really amazing to see them up close. I thought I'd crap my pants when the divemaster was saying that we may see some. But, I had no fear in there presence. Then we encountered a Humpback whale, truely amazing to watch.
Anyhow, while in Hawaii, I was reading one of those tourist brochures for diving in shark cages. It too was around $150.00. Someone at the resort saw me looking at the brochure and told me to forget about it. It says it's a two hour "excursion". The man said you actually only spent about ten minutes in the water and he only saw two sand sharks:irked: .

Not saying that would be the case with atlantis, but just offering my experience:spin: . In fact the sharks are in tanks out their, so you'll see sharks for sure:ANYWORD: . I haven't even been to the atlantis:pissed: . The wife and I will take a trip out there soon. If you go, let me know how it goes:)

i went to atlantis. i dont think its worth that at all. theres a tubing ride at the park you go down on a tube through a shark tank. it only takes like 3 minutes but you can go on as many times as you want. plus you can see the tank from outside and such. but if you want a hands on experience, go shark diving. also, another resort Beaches in turks and cacaos, its all inclusive to stay there. just pay a little extra fee to go snorkeling or scuba diving at a reef. theres also discovery cove in florida by seaworld

lol, I think we're talking about Atlantis Marine World in Riverhead, not Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas :)

I've been looking at the dive too, seems like a lot of $$ for what it is.

I have met sharks numerous times at Caribbean, French Polynesia and Red Sea. However a special setup shark diving trip will cost you a bit more. Six years ago I have paid a $100 for Shark Alley’s trip at Bahamas. My advice is: do it if you can afford it.
After all we only live once and you will regret later if you miss the opportunity. Good luck.

Perceived "value" for something like this isn't fair to banter about - people ARE paying the fees for this - if they weren't, then AA wouldn't be offering it as a feature.

BTW, this is catching on - they are doing it at other aquariums now.

I'd pay it seeing I don't have access to the sites that some others do.

Just sent a message to Joe (curator of Atlantis) and asked that he drop by and give us some more info about their shark dive exhibit. Hopefully he'll chime in here. :)

Chiefmcfuz:banghead: The info he is looking for is about the shark dive found here:http://www.atlantismarineworld.com/a...sharkdive.html

Anyone with info about this shark dive in the post please let him know.

Thank's. Yes, it's the aquarium I'm referring to and not the resort:wink1: .

Not sure if your referring to me, but I didn't start this thread to make fun of the program or Atlantis in anyway. This is a serious topic. As far as "perceived value", it's a matter of opinion. Just because a lot of people use the program, does not mean it's worth it. Also, just because a certain price is placed on an item or service does not mean it's worth that amount of money. Example, in 2004, I purchased a new 2005 Ford F150 pickup truck because it was the "#1 selling truck in America". I figured, if that many are people buy it, it must be good. This NEW(at the time) truck had been back to the dealership more times than I'd like to remember. From replaced timing belt, radiator, steering linkage, electrical problem(that they never figured out). On top of that, extremely poor customer service. Would I recommend this truck? No way, no how!
Hence, this thread, to see if anyone here has experienced the program and what there thoughts were about it.

if you have swum with sharks in the ocean this might not be what you expect. you are in the water with sharks, but it's in the giant shark tank, not the open water. your also in a cage which limits the interaction between you and the sharks.
I think it's a cool idea and is great for people who might not want to sit on the bottom of the ocean with sharks swimming around them while a dive master throws food in the water :lol2:
note, I have not done that dive, I've seen friends videos, that's not for me.

it seems kinda spendy and more designed for people who don't dive on a regular basis. being in a cage on scuba and standing outside the glass are probably not all that different. if you could swim around with the sharks, that would be pretty cool.

Hey guys,
There is a pre dive lecture to go over the rules, the gear, etc and we have a divemaster in the cage with you. All are full face masks and you can talk to each other, as well as family/ friends outside the tank.
Total time in the water is atleast 1/2hr.
I dive the tank to clean it, etc and I didn't think I would like the cage that much after free diving in the tank, but I found myself enjoying it very much. It is a totally different experience, our dive masters are very good and patient for those who have never been diving. They are usually busy on the weekends with it, so you can come in and check it out first.
The four dive groups for the day get the lecture program all together in the a.m., then we rotate through the group with the actual dives which are about 1/2hr each. We did an engagement from the tank, also had a couple get married in the cage with a pastor as well.
Joe
