Our power was off for 14 hours straight. Power came on again at 6:00 am and went off again from 8:00am until just a few minutes ago. Will be like that for a while yet as they may not be able to bring the power plants back to full capacity for maybe a day or so.

Scenario
- away on vacation for 3 days. 15 minutes after we get home- blackout.

Observations
- temp drop from 80 to 72 in 12 hours (cool basement).
- stir tank every 15 minutes (knocked over my bubble coral) and pour siphoned water into surge tank and operate manually every half hour
- noted pH drop from 8.35 to 8.1 in 6 hours (probes are on batteries as they always have been).
- pH shot up to 8.4 in an hour 8O this morning with lights back on and has now restabilized at around 8.3

Effect of Blackout on Inhabitants
-none 8O. Everything to this point is doing fine. Even my goniopora is in full display as I write this. The noted problem is a major upward swing in pH which caused fish stress early this morning.

I'll bet a good part of your RDO members cant read this for a while as the power is up and down like a yo-yo here as well as alot of eastern North America probably. Good luck to all involved. Keep stirring. I will do my part by giving myself 1 hour on this computer, and turn everything else off except my main power draw- the tank. And the beer fridge 8) .

I used a battery (D cell) operated air pump and a piece of PVC as a lift tube to help both airate and circulate the water. power was out for 12 hours, everything seems to be ok.

About 4 pm yesterday I heard the tank UPS beep for a second or two then shut off.....must have been when everyone else lost it. No problems here, but I did have my tank run on one powerhead plugged into the UPS for a few hours a couple nights prior. Something had tripped the main breaker when I was asleep.

Yea it went out. for about exactly 24hours. My tank did stink. But all i lost was 1 shrimp. The tank looks good now. I blame damn Canada.
This whole situation did cause other problems for me, but thats another story.
