In my experience, stress coat isn't something I'd use for reef fish.
The way to calm a stressed fish is to find the causation of that stress. Anything chasing it? Is it newly introduced? I'd also check for stray voltage in the tank as that often times causes fish to act skittish. Also, I've found fish sometimes behave strangly/stressfully under lights it's not accustomed to. My friend went form a Lights of American PC unit (cheap light) to a 150W Iwasaki 50KK metal halide and the fish's behavior was far less erratic after the switch. Also, what size tank is this tang in? Some tangs behave stressfully in tanks under 50g IME.

That is a pretty wide-ranging topic. They are subject to stress from poor diet and water conditions, shipping / acclimation stress, and stress from battling with other tank inhabitants (most likely other tangs). And probably several causes I missed. Anything you can do to minimize these will go a long way to having a healthy tang. I would start by insuring the water quality is first rate and they have a diet with plenty of plant matter. They also need plenty of swimming room, uncluttered by other tangs or belligerent fish that will battle with them. That's a start I guess, someone else can fill in the holes...

Is he already stressed, or are you just trying to prevent it? If he's stressed, I betcha he'll get ich. It's kinda inevitable. If that happens, try slowly lowering the SG to around 1.020 or 1.018. It's low, but it interrupts the reproductive cycle of the protozoan parasite. I did it, and everything was fine. He came back, and is doing great now. If you have a hospital tank big enough for him to swim around, I'd do it in there. Fill it with water from your tank, so he's not further stressed, and then slowly take the salinity down. It worked for me. If you go slow enough, it won't stress him further. If you're just trying to prevent it, then ignore me!
