Yes I've been doing saltwater tanks without ro/di for years now  Unless you count the TWP I use to use
Anyways I finally got a nice RO/DI http://www.aquariumwaterfilters.com/RODI/Barracuda.html
Its rated for 100GPD and my water pressure averages 52psi. I used it last night and got about 3.5 gallons per hour. Is that good? That comes out to 84gpd (I assume the rating of GPD on RO/DIs is a 24hour period?)
If my systems is rated for 100gpd should I get 100gpd or is that a "perfect" world rating and not realy achievable?

Also it came with a dual TDS mounted meter (sweet :D ). My incoming well water TDS is 160ppm. Comparatively speaking is that a high reading for a home? I have 4 kids that drink koolaid all the time and all that sugar is one thing but I'd hate to find out our well water is sewage too. If it is I will put a "ROonly" valve on my RO/DI for drinking water or maybe just get the additional drinking water kit altogether.

(Boy I hope this new RO/DI helps clear up my cyano and hair algae problem.)

TIA

Yep, the rating is for daily output. It's not an exact value and will vary depending on your source water's TDS and how your membrane was woven. But getting 85 GPD for a 100GPD is within acceptable range.

160ppm tapwater isn't very high and is just fine to drink (granted low levels of metals in them). The EPA's max is 500ppm, and anything below 250ppm is decent. You can always use RO water now to make the koolaids :)

Thanks guys

Liquid,
Great link. I did all the calculations described on the page (guessed my water source was 75F becuase it only felt a little cooler than my tank at 80F) so after doing the formula I came back at Expected GPD of 84.099GPD. Pretty damn close to what I actually got 8O .
I always told my wife I could tell the temp of water with my hand from all those years of fish tanks. She told me to stop fiddleing with the tanks so much then
