could someone tell me is it possible to use a 400 watt mh on a 55 gal and 2 actins 20 w each the mh is a sylvania no one ive talk to knows the kelvin of it.Anyone out there know and if it is too low in kelvin like lets say 4000k is that bad,thanks for any help.

Sylvania makes a lot of different bulbs, but chances are this is one of the lower Kelvin-rated bulbs in the neighborhood of 3500-4500K. The reason why low Kelvin bulbs aren't a good idea is because most corals are unable to use much of the "warmer" spectrum of these lights, all the while some problem algaes can.

2 20W NO actinics will not do anything against a 400W halide. The halide is simply too powerful and will wash out the actinics as if they weren't there. VHOs or PCs are your only option, unfortunately.
