I use a potpourri of snails and crabs. I have turbo, atreal, those grey cone shell ones for snails and for crabs I have emerald and common hermits. People use different critters for different reasons

Hey there, check out etropicals.com for their "build your own" reef janitor special. 60 bucks of cherry picked stuff and shipping is free, it is a great deal, and their critters are quality. With this affordable package you can avoid the marketing schemes of fictitious 1 snail/hermit per gallon rules in those huge "packages"- go slow and build up the critters according to demonstrated need in the tank, to avoid starving them.

I personally would stay away from most hermits, as they are opportunists, or go maybe 80% snails, 20% hermits, staying away from the larger hermit species. Get a fighting conch as well, they are great stirrers and fun to watch! I called mine "Dumbo"- you'll see why!

Good luck...

Crabs suck. Clumsy things that crawl over corals and cause the polyps to close up. I'm not paying all that cash to have crabs mess up my tank.

It's better to have just snails, anyway...they can actually clean the glass, whereas hermits cannot.

Peace,

Chip
