Anyone know where I can purchase a Battery Powered 'Backup'

I have a Aquafuge for my ten gallon nano and if the power cuts out the fuge backsiphons and raises the water level my tank two inches, causing overflow.

I want to set up my Aquafuge so that it normally runs off the power from the outlet, but in a case of a blackout, it will run from a battery powered power supply. So it would be an adapter type thingy that activates itself and runs off a battery when it senses there is no power coming from the wall. Does such a thing exist?

I dont want to run it off a Battery Powered power supply. I want to run it off a Battery Powered 'BACKUP' power supply. This way i wont have to worry about replacing batteries every so often and risk forgetting to replace a battery and have it go dead on me causing overflow.

Does Home Depot sell such a device? Is there a specific name for it when I go to the store to ask or are they just called Battery Powered Backup Power Supplies?

I think you want a UPS or universal power supply. It does what you want. There are different sizes, with different run times. If you do a search here you should find many threads about them. Any office place sells them, and sometimes HD has them on clearence.

I am not familliar with the Aquafuge, but can you put a check valve on it? There must also be other ways to fix the problem, anti siphon holes or something. I am sure someone with experience with the aquafuge will speak up.

How do you figure it would run the system for a day? I would have guessed that it wouldn't run that long.

I'm thinking of a ups, but I didn't think it would run everything for very long. So the plan (given current east coast climate) is to run a sweeping power head with the air line attached.

Other than running a test (difficult if it goes more than 4 or 5 hrs and I fall asleep) How could I calculate how long this will run?

OH and Liu, think siphon holes.

Also RL - I could never get the siphon 'feature' of the Aquafuge to work right. I took the inner pipe off the system so my fuge just gravity drains back to the tank. No siphon - no flood.

I would address your back-siphon overflow problem first. Maybe even a check valve or something.
