yes....red turf problem kind of snuck up on me. i have a 60 gal with a 10 gal sump. the sump has an aqua c remora pro with a mag 5. i have a mag 9.5 pumping water back to main tank (lots of flow through the sump, you can be sure!). there are 3 return outlets into tank running through 3/4 inch pvc with 1/2 inch flextubing at outlest.
i have no refugium or dedicated sand bed as yet (tank is built in to front desk in office -- poor planning allowed for little to no space for decent filtration). so as you can see, my mechanical and biological, excluding the 100+ lbs of live rock in main tank, are minimal.
lighting is pc. 110 w of actinic / 110 w of 10,000 (only lighting available for space constrictions).
i have about an inch or so of live sand bed in main tank. fish are: yellow tang (new), flame angel, green clown gobie, yellow watchman gobie and six-line wrasse. myriad of blue, red, scarlet hermits and 3-4 sp. of snails (lacking in snails i feel at moment).
last check on the phosphates was nil, same with nitrates. i use salifert tests. use to have a serious hair algae problem, but knocked it out with kalk. yellow tang is making a dent in the red turf. i hope it continues.
thinking of redesigning back of desk to allow for more space for things like refugiums. will check params again...ca and alk are both low. have never been avle to get ca over 350.
btw, tanker truck actually has a very large plastic water container (like the ones you see being pulled by trucks for mobile car washes, but much, much bigger!
thanks for anymore advice!
