I'm currently working on a DIY calcium reactor, and trying to decide what size of CO2 tank to get.

My question to everyone is what size CO2 tank do you have, and how often to you need to get it refilled?

Go as big as you can, it will just make you life easier in the long run. I have a 20 pounder.

I've called around town, and most places won't refill a tank unless they sell it, or lease it. Also if you purchase the tank, you are responsible for the hydrostatic test every 5 years.

Do you guys buy, or lease the tanks?

Buying a tank is ususally more complicated that that, because most places don't fill tanks, but trade them out for full ones, so you don't keep the same tank through time.

Find out if the local places are like that.

I bought both of my tanks, I have a 5 lb on my prop tank, and a 10 on my display, both tanks cost me about $50 each. I have to fill the 5 every 3 months or so, and the 10 every 6. HTH

The larger the tank, the cheaper it is (per pound) is to fill. However, with larger tank, there will be greater danger when tip over. Smaller tank like 5# is more safe, but you will need more trip to the get it filled.

Mine last for several months, and my local welding shop fill them up while I am waiting. Call around, everyone is different.
