My question will be what kind of GLASS can i put between the MH and the water. Currently there is NO glass between the MH and Water. does it need to be UV and how strong that it wont shatter. Where one can get this kind of Glass.

My MH are in a pendant 8" away from water level from Petsupplyliquidator.com.

Thanks.

If you are using a regular mogul bulb, which is encased in an envelope of glass, you do not need to put UV coated glass between it and the water. you might want to do this to prevent splashing on the bulb, but you don't need to do it for UV protection. If you are running HQI double ended bulbs, you should use UV coated glass. Any respectable framing shop will be able to cut UV coated glass for you- the brand name I have used before is called Tru-Vu. Any glass shop can cut regular glass for you, -the thinner the better- 1/8 inch is standard...

i am using 2x175W Mogul base MH. I need a glass or arcylic to cover my pendant so water wont splash on the bulb and reflectors. The pendant is sitting 8" from the water level and the top of the aquarium is open for air exchange.

where the best place to get glass or arclyic.

hi.
All glass except quartz glass will be fine for UV protection, if you do need it. There is no need for special UV glass.

For splash and accident protection, glass will be much, much better than acrylic, because acrylic melt and deform easily, and can be a fire hazard.

Any glass shop will be able to cut it for you. Even Home Depot.

If the bulbs are 8 inches off the water line, I doubt you need to worry about splashing. I have bulbs a little less that 6 inches off the waterline in an enclosed canopy for 3+ years and never had a problem with splashes.
