VHO to MH advice?

I currently have a 55 reef with 3 110 vho,s. I'd like to ugrade to something like this http://www.marinedepot.com/a_lt_mh_ht.asp?CartId= It's two 175's with two actinics, I will get the add'l fan. Will this be adequate for me? I don't want to get it and then realize I should have gotten stronger MH's. I'd like to start adding some of the high end corals that VHO just won't handle. btw the bulbs are 5500k TIA

What corals are you specifically looking at? Nephthea, Xenia, Trachyphyllia, Euphyllia, Acropora, Seriatopora, Porites, etc...? The animals you want to keep will dictate what lighting you should purchase.

I had a 55g with 4 x 110 VHO. I wanted to keep clams so I had to upgrade the lighting. I first bought a used 175w 10K ushio setup and was VERY pleased with the decision. A short time later, a friend of mine offered to sell me his 250w 10K ushio HQI setup (x2) and I couldn't resist.
Here is what I found.

Get the best that you can afford so when you upgrade to a larger DEEPER tank (like I did 55g-->120g), your initial investment on lighting won't go to waste. Upgrading can be a costly lesson

Also going from 175w to 250w, my SPS growth has accelerated (sp?). Also, the 250w's allows me to place my SPS and clams ANYWHERE in the tank w/o worries that my inhabitants are not getting enough light.

One final point, go with the 10K's. Anything less is too yellow even with actinic supplementation. Keep in mind that every one is different. IMO, the 10K's look nicer...at least in my eyes...

Again, all the above is what I've learned from my experience (limited as it may be...) I hope it helps you to make your decision.
