My pH has been up at 8.5-8.6 for the last few days. I have not changed anything. My normal pH was about 8.2-8.4

I have shut of my Kalk top-off for 2 days and my pH still goes up to 8.5. So I don’t think I have dosing too much Kalk.

What other factors could be raising pH?

Lots of photosynthetic activity that pulls CO2 out of the water can raise your pH. OR your battery on your pH monitor could be getting low. It reads high (Mine told me my tank was at 10.6 at one point, freaked me out!) when the batteries are almost out.

I wont claim to know what's causing your high ph, but I wouldn't worry about it. My ph ran around 8.7 at peak photoperiod for quite a while during it's first year. It is not harmful to you animals. Large, quick swing in ph are what you want to avoid at all cost.

What is the ph first thing in the AM.

And of course, how long since you calibrated your meter?

In the AM my pH is about 8.3, and it's been about 2 months since I calibrated my meter.

I'm going to do a test run and blow a lot of fresh air into my sump and see if my pH goes down. I think I may have an aeration problem.

I've heard bad stories about the tricks the AC adaptor plays. I'm with Louey, 8.6 isn't going to kill anything. I assume your Alk is normal?

I've also heard bad things about ac adaptors. I offed mine and put the battery back in.

Jason - I think that an aeration problem would have an opposite effect. Build-up of CO2 will lower the pH.
