Thanks for sharing. Your log should provide a good account for others battling this algae.

FWIW, my experience with Bryposis is nothing eats it. However, my battle with it abruptly ended when it crashed on its own after several months of continue bloom. It might be like a lot of algaes that can overrun tanks in short time, but crash unexpectedly (perhaps due to nutrient deprivation or sexual reproduction). I'll cross my fingers for you. Let us know if you find something that does actually eat this stuff. Believe me: I tried for months without success.

I had a similar recent problem.... my Sailfin tang would nip and it a little, but not really fully control it.

I was also having a problem with a severe calcium deficiency, and as I raised the calicum levels while keeping the Alk in check the Bryposis crashed on its own all of a sudden one day.... it was 1" - 2" in length throughout the tank and I came home the next day to find only little stubs, which then pretty much went away completely.... I'm assuming the increase in calcium level had something to do with the rapid change. During the "battle" I also greatly limited food input (only had 2 fish and no corals at the time).

Perhaps a complete coincidence....

I don't know if any of you have followed the "Crystal Sea salt saga" over at RC (particularly in Shimek's forum), but among a slight bleaching event (only a few corals - Pocillopora and Pavonas) that ocurred when I switched (back) to Crystal Sea from IO, every single bit of Bryopsis died.

I had a few patches that ebbed and flowed over 2.5 years. The only controlling factors were my fingers...until the salt switch. Also, I never had Bryopsis (or any real nuisance algae) back when I used Crystal Sea (for 2 years, prior to 2.5 years ago....)

Anyway, there were a few others who also noted nuisance algae/Bryopsis die-off (some without any coral bleaching) when switching to the salt (and some who had no algae die-off)...anyway, there seems to be some slight correlation.

My mistake (as far as the bleaching) was likely that I changed almost 1/3 of the tank with a new salt brand. I wasn't thinking...but I didn't lose anything. My only advice is that if you were to ever try this, to change over slowly....as in 5% changes at a time.

I too have the dreaded Byropsis in my 225 gallon Reef. I am trying to keep it under control...I have found by deprieving it of light will kill it in short order.....I used several pieces of saltwater safe epoxy to cover the several patches for about 1 week...after removing the epoxy the algae was completely dead....I would have left the epoxy in the tank to be colonized by coralline algae...but that epoxy made my skimmer go crazy.....I also added 4 lettuce nudi's.....3 are MIA..but 1 has found the patch and seems to eat it....but very slowly...Good Luck

Thanks for the reply's I appreciate all of the advise I have been getting, and trust me I am getting a lot.

I am also hearing more and more about people that have had it crash after a number of months with no huge changes, just a settling in of the important levels in the tank (and probably the establishment of appropriate bacteria)

Thanks Len, by the number of my posts you can tell that I'm not familiar with the content of reefs.org, but I can assure you that I will be doing some searches to help my cause.

I will post every so often in this thread to let people know that there is an update in the log, especially if I find a breakthrough solution (dreaming).

I had similar results as REEF 150 did after raising the calcium levels .
It took a week for it die back and go.While it was retreating i was vacuming and changing water.

The crispa nudibranches eat it, but very very slowly, lawnmower blenny's wont touch it, I tried that route a few years ago
