Hmmm... I haven't put anything on a maxi-jet except for some flex hose, so you may want to wait for someone who may have done what you're doing before to chime in. What you're talking about sounds like it may be threaded, so it won't just slide on, you may need a pvc coupling.
ive never had a maxijet so i cant copletly help, but i still have a suggestion. whenever i do plumbing, i usually wait untill i have all of the parts. i find it a lot easier to match up the correct fittings once you are sure what they are going on. sort of the measure twice cut once idea. you may have a special situation where you cant wait till after you get the pump in which case you will not be able to use this advice in which case i will shut up.

well thanks guys!
beerbaron i have to order the plumbing with the ph's if im going to order it at all. Im just not sure if I should even bother with this stuff or just use the ph's by themselves? Are the ph's easy to angle where you want the flow to go, or would i be better of with something like this flexi ball tubing?
I have two 1200's and they are quite flexible when it comes to directing the flow. I would try the pump first without the tubing and see if the results are what you want. You can always add the flexi ball tubing later.
ReefNewbie,
I've got a Maxijet 600 attached to a 3/8" ID clear vinyl tubing and it has been working fine for me as a return line from my fuge so far if that is of any help to you. HTH!
You can make a perfectly water tight seal with 1/2"ID x 5/8"OD vinyl tubing and a lot of teflon tape around the pump outlet. I have one on a closed loop using this and it works w/o leaks. HTH.
