I have a Pinpoint PH meter. It is probably 5-6 years old. It was stored for about 3 years when I had tanks shut down. I have had it in service again for about 10 months. It is way out of whack, showing a PH of 8.5-8.9 while 2 different Salifert test kits show 8.3
My question is how do you "calibrate" it by just sticking it into a known solution? there are no adjustment screws or anything?
Also would I be better just buying a replacement probe because of its age?

I think you would want a new probe due to age.

There shoud be 2 calabration screws on the monitor itself. What model do you have?

There are calabration solutions available at almost any LFS, or online Premium Aquatics aor Marine Depot has them. You need a solution of 7 and one of either 10 or 4.

There are no calibration screws on the front or back. It is an American Marine Pinpoint. I don't even know if it can be calibrated. thats why I may buy a whole new setup. I have a call into american Marine tech support now.....

Wetone all the modern ph meters which come from that company, have adjustment screws on the front ie: ph7 and ph 9 so as you say yours must be old. They are cheap enough over here, so perhaps they are cheaper over there.

wet,

by all means replace it and be done with it. most manufacturers suggest a replacement schedule on probes to be between every 6 to 8 months. i'd say you're there with the 5 to 6 year thing.

good luck.
