Sorry for yet ANOTHER post about protein skimmers. I have searched and read the info on this site and am looking for assistance deciding on a skimmer:

I have a 54 gallon fish-only tank with 30 lbs of live rock, no plans to add corals. Am having some problems with diatomic and bubble algae.

Have decided to add a protein skimmer and am now trying to decide among a BakPak2, Prism or Remora.

If you've had experience with any of these, please let me know:

1. Which of the three will create the least bubbles in my tank?
2. Which is the most quiet?
3. Which one works best?

I've heard the BakPak works well at first, but then stops collecting. I've heard the Prism is noisy. The Remora is the most expensive, but will I really get what I pay for?

I'd appreciate your comments!

I have both the Berlin Prizm Hang-On and BakPak-2R running on the same tank. I have been running the Prizm for a year now, and the BakPak-2R for the last 3 months. I have to empty the collection cup on the BakPak twice as often as I do the Prizm. So my results is the BakPak-2R out performs the Prizm 2 to 1. Both are very quiet and neither give me a bubble problem (except for after feeding). Another big plus for the BakPak is the surface skimming overflow addition.

Hi. i would go with the Bak-pak or the remora... Aqua C...

You will be satisfied by both....

I have used both and like them as well. Go for teh one that you can save a buck on. unless you are gonna upgrade to a bigger tank. i wouldn't use the bak-pak on anything over a 60gal.....

Used to run a Prism on the wife's 29 when we still had it up and running. Not a bad skimmer--did the job--it just was a nuisance because it required almost daily adjustments. :? Gets tedious after awhile. I'm more of the 'set it and forget it' type--like my big red sea berlin on our main tank. I clean the collection cup every week or so, clean the venturi about once a year, and other than that just let the thing run.
