This Bristle Worm in my refugium is over a foot long. He comes out to eat algae waffers I throw in. Pic is not that good, it's with a web cam, I gonna try to get a better one. If you look closely you can compare him with the AA batery I am holding.

He is black and red banded, with a turqoise hue througout him. I also have some in my main tank, but not as big. They are safe to corals, clams and critters, however might attack fish when they get large. Other than that, I find they are great scavengers and DT eaters.

I am gonna grow this guy even bigger!!!

Just like fish......these guys change their diet as they grow larger.....I would remove him. That's just my opinion though of course. Safe now doesn't mean safe later.

generally the blue and red ones are fine worms but when they get that big i would move them to the fuge also.

Those guys give me the willies. Mine never come out in the open like that (not that I have any monsters like that one!)

Weird... I can look at any spot in my 'fuge (2 years up) and see at least 20 bristleworms but I've never seen one longer than maybe 1.5 inches. That guy's a beast!

I vote to leave him alone - but watch him. He'll likely cause little to no damage in a fuge.

I made the mistake of eating a cracker when I looked at that picture. Thank you, I am now in the emergency room because I choked, and then spewed said cracker all over my computer. I'm now getting a new one. (puter, not cracker)

Hmmm...

Mines almost a foot and a half. In a 29 gal tank, no sump. Shares a below-rock apt. with an orange daimond goby.

Been researching the effects of removing such a large detrivore on my small system... However, considering the comment above on him altering his diet due to size, I guess I better evict him.

BTW I understand your choking, SM. First time I saw this thing I thought I was gonna be sick, yet I couldnt look away... very creepy looking.

Now I gotta coax him out! Aww man... Time to get me a 1 liter bottle of cola and start drinkin...
