I have a 50 gal with 60# of live rock, Live sand and various corals. Im getting rid of my tang because of the ass chewing Ive recieved here so many times.Hes going to my inlaws 135 :) he'll be happier in there. Left in the tank is a flame angel,Percula clown, Bangai Cardnal and a cleaner shrimp. Can I put a Marine Betta in there? Will he eat the cleaner shrimp?

Mine has never touched any shrimp (cleaner or peppermint). However, the Comet I have is always hiding during the day, and I only see it about 30 minutes before lights out.

Also, feeding can be a problem if you have "fast" eaters. The Marine Beta is a slow, methodical eater and is easily spooked by fast swimming fish. You might have a hard time keeping your other fish from consuming all the food before the Comet can get some. I usually feed the entire tank, and then spot feed the Comet with a cube of Mysis when the others are fat and satisfied.

well i know you dont like my input, and im not allowed to give suggestions, but im gonna anyways . i also have been eyeing up the marine bettas when i see them at the LFS. i however, have decided not to get one for my 75 because they get to large(i did want to get a pair though, see link in sig) so i may wait for my tank upgrade. i believe these fish also are pretty rough on shrump as well, but since my BTA's ate my pair of cleaners, i dont have to worry about that.

My first fish was a Marine Betta. I still have him 3 years later. He's in my 72g and is no bigger than say 4" head to tail. They won't get much bigger than that usually. As far as eating habits are concerned, I have never once had my Betta eat any other critters...he is shy though. Alot of times when I feed, if he's down in a hole i'll take a turkey baster and shoot some plankton or squid for him which he readily accepts. I would have no worries about putting a Betta in your tank. HTH

I have had mine going on 4 years now. During the first six - eight months that I had him, I never saw him. At the time he was in a 46 bowfront with plenty of rockwork. However, as time went on he started coming out more and more. I have since moved him into my 180 gallon and he comes out very regularly. He still stays in the rock work a lot of the time, but he swims from formation to formation and out into the water column regularly. He is a gorgeous fish, and now that he is less shy I am glad that I paid my good money for him.

I've had a Betta in my 54G tank for 2 years with 2 cleaner shrimp and a recently added peppermint shrimp.

My other fish are all reasonably passive and the Betta is always "out and about", it doesn't hide.

It eats well and is as voracious at feeding time as the other fish.
